Gary’s Revenge SpongeBob Game

Saturday 30 October 2010 @ 12:03 pm

If you’re a fan of Angry Birds and you love Gary, SpongeBob’s pet snail (who meows like a cat), this is going to quickly become one of your favorite free fun kids games.  The theme behind this game is that Gary has to eliminate all of the Puffy Fluffies who have set themselves up on different structures made out of wood (in the beginning).  You control Gary as he launches different shells at the Puffy Fluffies through his special shell launcher.  The trick is to set the right angle to cause the most damage with your one shot.  Here, I’ll explain it in a bit more detail for you and also walk you through your first level.

The first level is obviously the easiest and one you should be able to complete with just one shell.  You start off having three pink shells available to Gary.  You’ll see an arrow that points to the right which, when pressed, will let you take a little better look at your target.  Your Puffy Fluffy is set up on a few wooden boards and all it really takes it hitting the bottom of the boards to make him fall and be eliminated.  Grab the back of the launcher (it looks like a cork) with your mouse and click and drag it back, the further you go, the stronger the launcher and the farther your shell will go.  You can also adjust your launch angle up and down.  For this first level, don’t aim too high or your shell will launch over the top of the Puffy Fluffy.

After your first shell is launched, you’ll see little white dots showing the track your shot took. Make sure, on your second shot, you look at what your first shot did and adjust the angle to get the shell exactly where you want it to go.  If you were a little short of your target, move the angle of the launcher up a bit and your shell will go further.  Sometimes it’s best to launch the shell almost straight up in the air so it can come down on a specific spot.  Most of the time you can take a full shot, but you may want to experiment with a little less power to get your shell right where you want it to go.

Pay attention to what type of shell you have in the launcher because some of them do special things like blow up and smash straight down on the ground when you click the screen.  You’re going to want to experiment with each of these and try different ideas with them.  On level three, for example, your target is on the other side of this giant boulder. Thankfully, your first shell is one of the ones that smashes into the ground when you click the screen.  Here’s how to use it so you can get rid of all the Puffy Fluffies with just one shot.  Make sure your launch angle is high enough to send your shell well over the top of the boulder and then let it go.  Watch carefully because you’re going to need to click on the screen at the exact moment your shell is over the Puffy Fluffy at the top of the tallest board.  When you do this, your shell will be thrown straight down, hopefully hitting the boards and eliminating the Puffy Fluffy.

This is a fun game that will actually teach you a little bit about physics and geometry.  To make it extra difficult, don’t just settle for passing each level, make sure you’re earning the Gold Reward each time.  If you don’t do this, go back and retry the level until you do.  After a while you’ll get the hang of the game and start cranking through the levels with ease.  Just remember, for some of them you’re going to have to be a bit creative to complete it.  Don’t always go for the obvious answer and you’ll get through the more difficult ones.

iCarly – iLook Alike from Nick.com

Wednesday 13 May 2009 @ 5:48 pm

icarly_ilook-alikeIf you’re a fan of iCarly on Nick, you’re probably going to enjoy this game a great deal.  It’s one of the latest (as of this writing) and most popular games you’ll find on nick.com.  Of course, a lot of kids are going to nick for tons of computer games for kids.  They’re constantly updating their site and come out with new games all the time.

Carly, Sam and Freddie are the main characters on the show and that’s who you’ll be dealing with in this game.  The truth is, it could be just about anyone up there, but knowing it’s Carly, Sam and Freddie makes it more enjoyable for most fans of iCarly.  In case you didn’t know, iCarly is an extremely popular show on Nick about two girls who start a very successful web TV show.  Their friend Freddie helps with all of the video and technical stuff.  It’s actually a very fun show.

In this game, you’ll have to find the “real” Carly, Sam and Freddie in a crowd of imposters or “look alikes.”  You’ll do that be eliminating people based on what their wearing.  There are 3 wheels on the screen.  One for each character, one for the piece of clothing (shirt, pants, and jacket) and lastly one for the color of that clothing.  So, you can ask, for example, “is the real Sam wearing a blue jacket?”  Press the “=” sign and find out.  If it’s a no, you can click on the imposter look alike Sams.  So start eliminating all of the look alike Sams with blue jackets.  Next find out if she’s wearing a red jacket.  If not, eliminate those.

This game takes place in a giant arena and you’re standing in the middle of it.  So you’ll have to check all four sections of the arena to find the real characters.  There are some strategies you can use to speed up the search, but I won’t give those away.  You’ll quickly figure them out.  If you think you’ve found the real Carly, Sam or Freddie, mark them and find out if you’re correct.  You have to find the real deal for each one of the three.

If it sounds easy, it’s not.  If you get to the point where it’s lost it’s challenge, you increase the difficulty by reducing the time you have to search, increasing the number of people you have to sort through and how many different colors of clothing you’ll have to sort through (max of 5). For my dad, he’s kind of color blind, so it’s not easy when he gets too many different shades of colors.

This is one of those learning games for kids that will teach you how to think logically about what you’re doing.  If you don’t come up with a logical system of elimination, it’s going to take you a long time to master the game and you’ll quickly get bored with guessing which is the real character. With the younger kids, it can really help learning and identifying colors.  It’s simple enough for a 3-5 year old, but challenging enough that my dad is hard to pull off of it.

One thing you’ll notice is that you open up a new Spongebob mini game evertime you play.  Just ignore this, it’s simply Nick.coms way of promoting their latest game.  Everyone opens this mini game everytime they play, regardless of how well they do.
